On 25 May 2018, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) came into force. Its objectives and new features include:
- Harmonise personal data protection rules across the entire European Union;
- Strengthening and introducing new rights for data subjects;
- Place fundamental importance on the principles of accountability and privacy by design and by default;
- Tighten penalties;
- Introducing the role of Data Protection Officer (hereinafter also «DPO»).
To comply with the GDPR, organisations must set up a so-called «privacy system», made up of:
1. Records of Processing Activities;
2. Privacy Notices;
3. Letters of Designation;
4. Procedures;
5. Data Breach Register;
6. Risk Analysis;
7. Privacy by Design and DPIA.
